Haydn was widely regarded as the “Father of the symphony” for his contributions to this music genre. Haydn returned to Vienna in 1795, working as a part-time employee with the Esterh*zy family. After a successful and lucrative season in London in 1794, he would return to the city for another campaign. In 1791, Joseph Haydn and Johan Peter Salomon traveled to England to conduct symphonies. Haydn wrote music for the publication, as well as for the family. He was called Kapellmeister, or court musician, at the palace of the Esterhzy family in 1761, following his arrival in the area. As an 8-year-old, he was selected to sing in the St. Ludwig van Beethoven, Haydn’s most famous pupil, was also his student. He became a famous composer and is known as the “Father of the Symphony.” He was always studying and practicing his music. He also took music lessons when he could afford them. ![]() He worked as a servant for several years. At the age of fifteen, Haydn left Rohrau and moved to Vienna. He also played the violin in the church orchestra. Haydn was a choirboy at the local church. Haydn’s grandfather was a schoolteacher and taught Haydn to read and write. When he was eight years old, his father could not afford to keep all of his children so he sent Haydn and his sister to live with their grandparents. His brothers played the violin and Haydn learned to play the violin and the clavier from them. His brother Michael Haydn was also a composer. Haydn’s mother, Maria Koller, was a cook.
